Question: How can silence be so powerful?
Bhagavan: A realized being radiates waves of spiritual influence that naturally draw many people. Yet such a being may sit in a cave and remain in complete silence. We may listen to lectures about Truth and leave with little real understanding, but simply coming into the presence of a realized being—even if they do not speak—can bring a far deeper understanding of the subject. Such a being never needs to appear in public. If necessary, others may serve as instruments for their work.
The Guru is the giver of Silence, revealing the light of Self-Knowledge that shines as the ultimate Reality. Spoken words are of little value when the Guru's eyes meet the eyes of the disciple.
"Heart" is simply another name for the Supreme Spirit, for It dwells in every heart. The entire Universe is contained within the body, and the entire body is contained within the Heart. Thus, the Heart is the very core of the whole Universe.
Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi
